Sundsbergsleden

6 kilometres. This trail is located close to the town centre, but still gives a taste of wilderness. You walk down through lush ravines and up on ridges and hills with wonderful views of the surroundings....
At the far end of the trail, you will find a water lily pond where you can take a break and listen to the song of a brook. In the spring, there is a sea of blue hepaticas blooming here, and a choir of songbirds. At the cottage Skogsbacken, you will smell the sweet scent of the mezereum. Along this winding trail, you will find many animals, plants, and experiences. Sundsbergsleden is one of our certified Värmland trails.

17 kilometres. Ängenleden is a wonderful trail, with a few challenges for its hikers. Make sure that you have plenty of time so that you can enjoy everything that this trail has to offer....
In addition to the breath-taking nature, you will also find cultural remains with information signs, such as trapping pit systems, mysterious old mines, and much more. The trail takes you through old Finn forests up to the best viewpoints, where you can see the blue waters of lake Ängsjön glittering far below. You will walk past meadows with wildflowers, gurgling brooks, and a foaming river. The area of Ängen welcomes you around the year. When the snow lies too thick for hiking, it is perfect for cross-country skiing instead. In the summer, you can cool off at one of the many little shores of lake Ängen. Ängenleden is one of our certified Värmland trails.

At the mine remains, let yourself be fascinated by the azure blue rock walls and imagine the time when this place was filled with the sounds of hammer strikes and hundreds of working people. Nature is now reclaiming the land, but you can still see the traces of the toils of bygone days. This trail takes you up and down over logs and rocks, and there is a surprise around every corner. It will leave you full of rich impressions, but still let you relax in the stillness of nature.

3 kilometres. From the fabled manor of Mårbacka, you will follow in the steps of Nobel Prize winner Selma Lagerlöf toward the cottage where her nursemaid Back-Kajsa once lived....
The kind old lady would carry Selma Lagerlöf through these woods, when the young girl could not walk herself. At the top of the trail, you can rest and enjoy a wonderful view. You will pass by interesting rock faces where the lynx has its den, and in the rich flora you will find both blue hepaticas and hazel. If you are interested in botany there is much to see, and you have a great chance of seeing woodland birds.

2-12 kilometres. When you are hiking the trail of Askerudsberget, you will see the glittering waters of lake Fryken through the sparse pine forest. There is a resting spot with a picnic table right beside the lake....
The trail winds its way past mysterious cairns and up over rock surfaces with stunning views of your surroundings. There are many interesting remains from cottages and outdoor dance floors on this big hill, which is locally known as “The Dance Mountain”.

During your journey, you can choose between sleeping out in the open and enjoying the luxury of soft beds in a bed and breakfast. The trail follows old dirt roads and paths through beautiful nature. On your return trip, you might take the train along the old railway Fryksdalsbanan.

You will hear the lapping of the lake water as you saunter through a sparse wood of old leaf trees. In the spring, you will pass through a small ocean of lilies of the valley. Further in towards the fir woods, the blue anemones dominate the spring flora. Once you pass through the fir woods, you reach the very point of the land where you are surrounded by water. If the weather is warm, you might go for a swim in the lake! There is a spot for barbecuing here, and from the bench at the very edge you can see the impressive beaver dam.

At the very top, you will encounter a stunning view of the valley Rottnadalen. You are far above the bounds of civilisation and may enjoy the song of the wind in peace. Your packed lunch is best enjoyed by the little pond Råtjärnen. Going back down the trail, you will pass a brook with a beautiful waterfall.

Brårudsmossen

2 kilometres. If you want a shorter hike at a comfortable pace, Brårudsmossen might be the trail for you. It is a soft and relatively easy hike, with wooden boardwalks to help you across the damper parts....
In the spring, you will be met by a chorus of birdsong and the rich scent of wild rosemary. You hike along the paths of moose and deer, who might be watching you from a distance. Although the trail is only 2 kilometres long, you will see a lot of variety in the forest with both old fir trees and delicate birch trees. In the later parts of the summer, there are many generous wild raspberry thickets here. You might also catch a glimpse of the beaver that has its dam in the canal that runs along the trail for a while.

10 kilometres. At the shore of lake Grässjön, there are great opportunities for bathing, which might be just what you want after climbing the Grinnberget mountain. At the top, there is a beautiful view of the Rottnadalen valley....
This trail mainly goes through a moor landscape with straight, tall pine trees. In the north, the trail winds up onto Grinnberget mountain. There are plenty of blueberries and lingonberries here in the late summer and early autumn. Once you have enjoyed the viewpoint, you can either take the same way back, or follow the gravel road back on the scenic, western side of lake Grässjön.

You will see the old mine Källargruvan with its deep shafts and lovely blue hues in the bedrock. The trail offers you beautiful views of lake Mången and a fascinating flora.

The trail takes you around lake Udden, locally known as “Lillsjön”. You will mostly follow the gravel road, but also a shorter stretch along the tarmac through the village, and along a small forest path. In addition to your hike, you may also take the opportunity to visit the church of Gräsmark, well known for its beautiful location and its painted ceilings.
