We have hiked in all eras. By hiking, we can listen to and smell the forest, hear birds and maybe see other wild animals. What a good trail is of course depends on your taste and preferences. But hiking trails where you don\u2019t have to worry about not finding your way is certainly the best. Several of the certified hiking trails, known as \u201cV\u00e4rmland trails\u201d, are located in Sunne. These trails are certified in part because they guarantee clear trail markings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

20 trails to discover<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are about 20 trails in our area.<\/a> We have trails that vary in length from 2 to 17 km. But if you combine our longest trail with connecting trails, you\u2019ll suddenly find yourself in a trail system of hiking trails totalling 50 miles. Most of the trails are in the area west of Sunne in Gr\u00e4smark. This area also has an exciting history to learn about. How about the story of the big Peckeregutten who first put a large rock in the brook and then carried his cow over. Hiking with a guideDuring Sunne Hiking Week, we offer hiking with a guide. Hiking folder with maps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It’s good to know your position along the trail, so that you can estimate your hiking time and plan pauses. We all want to enjoy our packed lunch and coffee at the perfect lakeside spot! Pilgrim hike<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are clear signs that pilgrims walked along Fryksdalsleden (Fryksdal Trail). But this trail is also known as an archeological trail and trade trail. People have been walking here since time immemorial. Pilgrims walked here in the 1100s to get to sacred places like Nidaros, but also Skara. The word pilgrim means \u201cin a foreign land\u201d and that was exactly what the pilgrimage was. It was about breaking away from everyday life and going on a journey to learn about yourself and gain new perspectives on life. Fryksdalsleden runs between Kil and Torsby and measures 110 km.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sundberg\u2019s recreational area <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

By Sundsberg\u2019s recreational area is the first hiking trail to be certified as a \u201cV\u00e4rmland trail\u201d. Sundsbergsleden (Sundsberg Trail) is located just behind Selma Spa and it passes several places where hikers will want to stop for a break. From the lookout area, you can look down over Sunne\u2019s urban area and Lake Fryken. By the bird pond and by Vintertorpet there are picnic areas with grilling spots. The area also has jogging trails and bike trails for mountain biking.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunne is located in the very heart of V\u00e4rmland county. The town is perfectly situated if you want to stay in one place but hike in different locations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hiking boots and backpack<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Equipment is important when hiking. Having the right shoes or boots can actually be absolutely crucial to how you experience hiking in Sunne. Buy yourself a pair of shoes that fit nicely and keep in mind that they should preferably be 1 cm longer than regular shoes. Your feet swell a little when you hike. A backpack to fill with the goodies you want to take with you during the hike is good. It\u2019s no fun when your energy runs out.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hiking with dogs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Of course, it\u2019s a pleasure to be able to take your best friend, your dog, out on a hike. What to keep in mind is that dogs should be tethered most parts of the year. A dog harness can be better than a leash, so you don\u2019t have to hold the leash during the hike. This is partly because there are other wild animals in the forest and partly to show consideration for other hikers. Choose a trail your dog can handle. Of course, it depends on your dog\u2019s condition, breed and health.
